DECOY WL-12 EX Wire Leader

The DECOY WL-12 EX Wire Leader is a wire leader from the Japanese maker Katsuichi (DECOY), made for fish with sharp teeth and for fishing around snags. The wire stands up to rubbing on rocks and branches and to teeth.

The weakest point of many wire leaders is the snap, so this one uses the DECOY EX Snap, one of the maker's strongest. The wire is twisted from 21 strands (3×7) and nylon coated, so it stays supple and is less prone to kinking.

Lengths and strength (maker's data):

• 20 cm: 9.1 kg (20 lb), EX Snap #1, 3 pieces per pack
• 30 cm: 13.6 kg (30 lb), EX Snap #2, 2 pieces per pack
• 40 cm: 18.1 kg (40 lb), EX Snap #3, 2 pieces per pack

What it is for

• Fish: pike, and also perch and zander in waters with pike.
• Length: 20 cm for small lures and spinners, 30–40 cm for big hard baits, glide baits and swimbaits.
• Tip: for big pike choose the 30 or 40 cm leader: it is stronger and protects the line better when a pike takes the lure deep.
