• Rod: a spinning rod rated for about 10–30 g; on the sea coast a longer rod of 2.7–3 m is more comfortable.
• Line: 0.12–0.16 mm braided line with a 0.28–0.33 mm fluorocarbon leader.
• Retrieve: for asp, a fast retrieve in the upper layer; for perch and zander, lift & fall along the bottom or vertical jigging from a boat.
• For pike: use a steel or titanium leader.
